Casa Luna Gourmet Accommodation
Gwenda & David have known the area for many years, having been campers on the Ovens River, near Brown Brothers Winery in the Milawa Gourmet Region, until they discovered the entrancing secrets of the nearby King Valley. A lovely Pizzini riesling led them up the Whitfield road on their way back to Melbourne via Mansfield, and helped cement their love of this exquisite region. They never camped on the Ovens again.
The King River tumbles through the vineyards of the King Valley, past old tobacco sheds on the river flats, and spawns little creeks and tributaries. One of these is the Boggy Creek – the ever-flowing waterway through Casa Luna’s bottom paddock.
Gwenda has been cooking professionally for many years, starting out with an informal lunch club in Melbourne, and finishing with a successful catering business specialising in corporate catering. Her passion for Italy, and its food and wine, have found expression for Casa Luna Gourmet Accommodation here in the King Valley, home to many migrants who are producing the grapes and wines they know from their home regions in Italy. Also the food – salamis are made in winter, tomato sauces in summer, cheeses all year round.
Why “Casa Luna”? “Gwenda” means “crescent moon” in Gaelic. Casa Luna – House of the Moon. Guests marvel at the moonlight slanting through the upper windows of the rooms, casting a gentle Casa Luna spell.
